#Why is a heavy, gold-woven Mamian skirt not cheap?

Let's talk about the "gold weaving" and the machines behind it 🫶

😍 Hello~ Recently a customer asked me: "Gold-woven Mamian skirts are beautiful, but why are they so much more expensive than regular skirts?"

I totally understand this question. Today, let's skip the sentimental talk and dive into what gold weaving really is and why it's such a labor-intensive process.

✨ First, "gold weaving" is not a print. It's actual metal threads woven directly into the fabric.

Regular printed skirts are made by printing patterns onto finished fabric — low cost. But gold weaving means weaving gold (or silver, or copper) threads together with silk or cotton threads during the fabric production itself. This requires specialized jacquard looms, and each roll's pattern, density, and gold-thread alignment must be recalibrated.

🛠️ The machines need constant adjustment — sometimes a full day for just one design.

Many gold-woven fabrics are not mass-produced stock but custom-ordered from mills. Changing a pattern or the thickness of the gold thread means stopping the loom and realigning everything. Sampling, test weaving, adjusting density and tension… sometimes a whole roll has to be redone. These time costs are factored into every skirt.

🎨 There are also many variations in fabric style and weave.

Even with gold weaving, some bases are satin-backed, some are shiny silk, some are cotton-linen blends. Gold threads can be real gold, imitation gold, or multicolored. Patterns include dragons, phoenixes, peonies, auspicious clouds, and ruyi symbols. To achieve a drape that is flowy yet structured, we've experimented endlessly with warp/weft density and twist. Many cheap so-called "gold woven" skirts are actually hot-stamped foil — they peel after a few washes. Ours are truly woven in — durable and structured.

✂️ Once the fabric is ready, pattern-making also takes extra care.

Gold-woven fabric is thicker and drapes differently than ordinary fabric. When pleating, the depth, spacing, and pattern alignment must be adjusted repeatedly. Aligning the motif for just one skirt can take an extra 30 minutes of handwork. That's why our Mamian skirts don't puff out (no "exploding pleats") and have a beautiful flowing sheen when you walk.

💰 So the higher price comes from:

· Machine setup costs for custom-woven fabric

· The inherently slow speed and low yield of gold-weaving

· Different process parameters for different fabric styles

· Manual assistance for pattern alignment, pleating, and sewing

Of course, I'm not telling you to blindly buy the expensive option. If you're a beginner, you can start with a printed cotton-linen Mamian skirt. But if you want a truly elegant, luminous piece that will last for years, our gold-woven collection is absolutely worth it.
